Bridging Manipulation, Perception, and Learning Workshop
- Time slot: Day 2, 14:00 - 17:00 h
- Room: 2.057 (on the 2nd floor of Marchstrasse 23) and MS Teams
Abstract
Tactile sensing is a natural link between the interests of the manipulation, perception, and learning clusters. In this workshop, we will leverage the cross-domain knowledge of the three participating clusters in order to take a system-level perspective on tactile sensing with the goal of opening avenues for future collaboration. To ground the topic in ongoing work, partners from each participating cluster will give a series of short research talks on current activities utilizing tactile sensing. Partners will then set up various tactile sensors for a hands-on session. This hands-on session will allow participants without a background in tactile sensing to gain some tangible, practical knowledge of the differences, limitations, strengths, and weaknesses of existing sensor technologies. Building upon the hands-on session and research talks, the workshop will conclude with a structured group discussion to identify barriers to progress in tactile-enabled multi-modal robotic systems as well as interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to overcoming these barriers. The desired outcome of this workshop is to establish new collaborations within RIG, enabling partners to share and strengthen their varied expertise in the process of creating the next generation of dexterous robots.
